Book Pirates are worse than….

Regular Pirates. Because at least regular pirates only pillage rum. And that’s not infringing on anyone’s creativity.

I hit the big time! My book has been pirated. For shits and giggles, I did a search for A Beautiful Mess, T.K. Leigh, epub, just to check. And bam! There was my book, free for everyone. Thankfully, the majority of you out there are honest and for the low, low cost of $2.99 would have no problem buying a legitimate version of my book. For the rest of you out there, SHAME ON YOU! And that’s all I’m going to say on the matter.

So I got to have a little fun this morning. You see, before I began this writing career of mine, I went to law school (and graduated in the top of my class). And after law school, I moved to California. And once in California, I took the bar exam. And I passed the toughest bar exam in the country on the first try. I think the overall pass rate during that bar exam sitting was a low of 31%. Crazy, right? Anyway, I have been a member of the State Bar of California for the last several years. And it states rather clearly in my bio on amazon that I am an attorney / producer by trade. Idiots! So cease and desist orders have been sent. And will be sent on a regular basis until the copyrighted material is taken down.

Reminder…. My book is now live on amazon!!! Be honest and buy it!

This is a basic copyright take down notice. Under US Copyright law, there is no hard and fast time that I’m aware of that they need to take the infringing material down by. Book piracy, unfortunately happens. We all wish it didn’t because of the countless hours we spend pouring our hearts and souls into our manuscripts. It’s a slap in the face for someone to just pirate our work and post it so everyone can enjoy it for free. I didn’t start writing to make money. Even if I never made a penny off my work, I’d still write. Because it makes me happy. Simply because I enjoy what I do, doesn’t mean that you should steal my work. It’s not only a slap in the face to me as an author, but also to all the hard-working, honest people who actually buy my book. Okay. I’m done now. Feel free to use all or any of the copyright take down notice I’ve posted. As a self-published author, I’m thankful to have a law degree. :-)

Airplane Teaser

So I’m sitting up here at 38,000 feet on my way back to LA. To make the time go by a little quicker, I decided to give you all a little teaser. What can I say. I’m enjoying sharing this book with you. I posed a question on my Facebook page. Whether you wanted a steamy or sweet teaser. And if steamy, dark or not so dark. So I’ve decided to go with a some-what sweet steamy that borders on dark. Make sense? Hehehe…  Enjoy…

He gently nipped at her neck, tracing a line down her jaw and tugging at her earlobe. “You are one incredible woman,” Alexander said. “God, I love being inside of you, Olivia.” She ran her fingers up and down his back, her touch sending shivers through his body. “Just one touch and I’m ready to lose my mind, Love.”

“Faster, Alex. Please,” she begged as she wrapped her legs around his waist, desperately bucking him with her hips.

“No, Love. I want you to feel me. Do you feel this?” he asked as he continued his slow movements, the closeness almost unbearable.

“Yes, Alexander. I feel it.” And she knew he wasn’t just talking about his erection inside her. He was talking about something else entirely.

The voice grew louder.

New Release Date!!!

Holy crap! I can’t believe it. But my ARCs of “A Beautiful Mess” are ready. And that means I’ll be publishing waaaaaay ahead of scheduled. So I’m officially announcing a new release date. The old one was October 8, 2013.

A Beautiful Mess will now be released:

SEPTEMBER 9, 2013!!!!!!

This is my release date for amazon e-book only. I’ll then be publishing to smashwords, B&N, & kobo after that, but considering the large portion of the e-book market is amazon, its my priority. The hard copy will be the last to go live, as I have to approve proofs, etc.

The book is already fully formatted for upload to everyone (THANK YOU SCRIVENER!!!)

The plan is to re-read once more (or maybe twice, depending) and then I’ll be hitting that little publish button.

That brings me to my next point. If you are a blogger, please contact me if you are interested in receiving an ARC of A Beautiful Mess. Your options for receiving the ARC are as follows: (1) A PDF sent to your e-mail address, OR (2) A .mobi Kindle file sent directly to the KINDLE e-mail address associated with the kindle device you would like to read from.

Please e-mail me at tmart1029@mac.com with the following information:

(1) Full name

(2) Blog website-address

(3) format. (If you choose .mobi you will also need to let me know your KINDLE e-mail address.)

Here are the instructions to figure out your kindle e-mail address as well as add my e-mail to your list of approved senders.

(1) sign into your amazon.com account
(2) go to “Manage your kindle”
(3) click on “manage your devices” – it’s located in the toolbar on the lefthand side of your screen
(4) a screen should appear that lists your kindle e-mail address for each device (iPad, Kindle, iPhone, etc.) Pick the device you want me to send it to and send me the e-mail address that corresponds to that device.
(5) on the same screen, click on the link that says “Manage Personal Document Settings.”
(6) Toward the bottom, there is a section that says “Approved personal document e-mail list.” You will need to add my e-mail address - tmart1029@mac.com.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send me all this information so I can cut down on the back and forth e-mails.

I just ask that you post your review to Goodreads, amazon, smashwords, B&N. Granted the only site that is live right now is Goodreads, but I will, of course, be sending you a link when it goes live to all the other websites and I would ask that you post it there as well. And of course, I would ask that you post your review to your blog and tweet/post about it on Facebook, etc.

That’s all for now.

Voice

Happy Tuesday all!

I’m in New York right now. I’ve been on the east coast this past week visiting with the fam. The hubs is in NYC for work, so I piggy-backed a trip to see the fam and the cutest little niece in the entire freakin’ universe onto his work trip. So I’m sitting on a tour bus right now, blogging and reviewing my book. The ARCs should be ready to send out today. And after that I’m hoping to do one last review and then hit that little publish button on Amazon and Smashwords.

So, today I wanted to blog a little bit about voice in a book, otherwise known as Point of View. This is a subject that seems to have gotten a little bit of discussion lately on a bunch of blogs and facebook pages that I follow. And I wanted to throw in my two cents.

Everyone has their preferences regarding what point of view they prefer to read when picking up a book. What I hate to see is when someone says they refuse to read a book based on the point of view. I hope that’s not what’s happening. I really do. I saw so many people say they prefer first person. And for some stories, first person may work better than third. In my humble opinion, I don’t know if point of view is what is going to make or break a book for me. If I can connect with the characters, feel their pain, feel their joy, that’s all that matters. A well-written book will be a well-written book regardless of whether it was written in first or third person.

And that’s been my answer to this question. I don’t care what point of view as long as it’s well-written and a great story.

My book is written in third person. When I first sat down to write it, it started as 1st person. But there is a HUGE suspense element and any of my betas who read it can attest to the fact that this book COULD NOT work in 1st person. Another comment I see a lot of is that people prefer first person because you get a glimpse of what is going through the main character’s head.

If a book is written in third person, and written well, I would argue that you get the same thing, plus some. Not only do you get a glimpse into what one character is thinking, in third person omniscient, you get a glimpse into what EVERY character is thinking. Not just one.

There’s a new chapter in my book that I just wrote a week or so ago. It’s toward the end of the book. And we really see a HUGE struggle between my two main characters. And we know what is going on in each of their minds because it’s written in third person. I know there are many books out there written in first person with alternating POVs, but that won’t work in every situation.

I love the question about what point of view people prefer. I really just wanted to add my opinion on the matter. Who cares as long as it’s written well.

On that note, it’s Tuesday. So here’s a little teaser for you all.

And don’t forget to add my book “A Beautiful Mess,” to your Goodreads TBR list. It should be out soon!!!!

And also, don’t forget about the kicka$$ giveaway going on right now over on my Facebook page. Up for grabs: (1) Kindle Fire HD 7 inch, (1) $50 Amazon gift card, (1) $25 Amazon gift card, (3) $10 Amazon gift cards, (5) Kindle e-Books of “A Beautiful Mess”

It’s Teaser Tuesday Again!

Happy Teaser Tuesday all! Since there’s not many Tuesdays left between now and the release of my book (which is releasing at least a month early, if not more!), I’m giving you all a steamy one.

Here’s a scene from my upcoming release “A Beautiful Mess.”

THIS CONTAINS GRAPHIC SEXUAL CONTENT. 18 AND OVER ONLY!!!!

Her breathing became more erratic and Alexander felt Olivia’s body begin to tighten around him. “Again?” he asked, pulling back, his eyes searing down into hers.

She simply nodded, her voice nowhere to be found. Alexander pulled out.

“NO! Not again!” Olivia screamed, panting.

“I need to hear you say it, Love. Tell me you’re going to come again,” he said breathlessly, ready to explode at any moment. “Say I drive you wild when I’m inside you. Tell me I’m the only one who’s ever made you feel this good.”

Olivia tried to catch her breath. She had never come like that before and she was about to come again. She didn’t know what to make of it.

“Damn it, Olivia. Just say it.” He needed to hear it. He needed to know that he alone could make her feel that good.

“Yes. You’re the only one, Alexander,” she replied, her heart racing. “I’ve never had an orgasm like that in my life. Now, please. I want another one.”

He leaned down and feathered kisses across her neck. “Ask me.”

Olivia flashed back to the night they met. She knew exactly what he wanted. Smiling, she ran her fingers up and down his back. She felt him harden against her. “Please, Mr. Burnham. Let me come again.”

Happy Book Lover’s Day!

Happy Friday!!! Sorry I haven’t been blogging much this week, but I have a very good reason.

I received my manuscript back from my editor Sunday night and since then, I have been locked away in my little writing nook, making a few changes here and there to my manuscript. I’ve only changed a few things, but boy is the book rocking now. I sent my manuscript back to my editor this morning and she’s going to take one more pass through to point out any blaring grammatical issues, but other than that, the book is almost ready for publication. I’m still in shock over the fact that in just a few short months (or maybe weeks) I’ll be a published author. It’s slightly mind-blowing. I never in a million years saw my life taking this turn. And either has the hubs, I think.

The other day, I was about 2/3 of the way through my book, and I got to the first schmex scene. Now, fair warning, there is some graphic schmex in the book. But it’s definitely not gratuitous. That was one of the things I struggled with while writing these books. I didn’t want there to be schmex for the sake of schmex. It needed to further something. And that’s what you’ll see when you read these books. The schmex tells you something about characters and their inner struggles. I’ve got two big dynamic characters as my mains, instead of one static and one dynamic. And the entire series, you see them slowly come to terms with their past and each other.

Anyway, back to the schmex scene I was editing. I go out of my editing nook and find my husband working at our home office on one of the many projects we have going on right now. And we get into a discussion about whether to use a slang term for a certain part of a woman’s body or the more clinical term. And we agreed on the slang term. I bet he never saw his life taking this term when he was going to a baptist college years ago.

Well, that’s it for today. Now, just some shameless promotion:

Happy Teaser Tuesday!

Hey all! Sorry no post yesterday. I got my manuscript back from my editor Sunday and I’ve pretty much been going non-stop making a few changes here and there and finalizing my manuscript. I am so excited to share the story of Olivia and Alexander with all of you. I know I’ve said this a gazillion times but it was such a labor of love writing this entire story. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever read, and those who know me, know that I’ve read countless books.

There’s mystery and intrigue. There’s love. There’s loss. Not to mention there’s quite a few twists and turns on the way. ;-)

Here are the links to the books on Goodreads:

A Beautiful Mess (Beautiful Mess, # 1)

A Tragic Wreck (Beautiful Mess, # 2)

Gorgeous Chaos (Beautiful Mess, # 3)

And without further ado, here’s a teaser!!!
