“A Tragic Wreck” ARC Requests!!!

Morning all. I have been fielding A TON of requests for ARCs of “A Tragic Wreck” recently. Now, these ARCs will not be ready for distribution until January. (I have a silly habit of wanting to make the ARC the final version of the book.) However, I’m now having difficulty keeping track of who I’ve talked to regarding this. So I now have a google doc ready for those who want to request an ARC of “A Tragic Wreck.” Keep in mind if you received an ARC of “A Beautiful Mess” back in August and did not review as promised, you will not be getting an ARC. Sorry. I’d rather give that spot to someone who did review it. Nothing personal. Also, this has nothing to do with my blog tour. Sign-ups for that won’t occur for another month or so. But if you’re hoping to get on the tour, there’s a place for you to mention that to me. This is the same ARC that will be distributed during the blog tour. I am hoping there are some people who will read and review in advance of the tour, however.

You do not have to be a blogger to request one, but preference will go to those bloggers who did not get on my blog tour. If you are not a blogger, you can still fill out the request, but make sure you have read and reviewed “A Beautiful Mess.” The purpose of an ARC is for me to get some reviews in advance of publication. It is not for you to get a free book. Sorry if I’m a little blunt here, but I need you to understand exactly what I expect out of you when I grant you access to this book ahead of the general public.

Please, please, please follow the instructions on the sign-up sheet. I am only making ARCs available in two formats: Kindle and PDF. I am not doing ePub. If you request an ePub, you will get a PDF. If you request Kindle, you will only get the Kindle format if you give me the e-mail address attached to your kindle reading device. And you will need to add to your list of approved senders. If you asked for .mobi (Kindle) and gave me any e-mail address other than one ending in, I will send you a PDF. Sorry. I’m trying to minimize my exposure to potential book piracy.

Because I’m not expecting to have these ARCs ready until early January, I am requesting a TWO WEEK MAX TURNAROUND TIME. (Meaning, when I send that ARC, the review needs to be posted within two weeks on Goodreads and then again on amazon once the book is live.)

Now that’s all out of the way, feel free to sign up. Again, preference will go to bloggers who do not get on the blog tour, followed by those individuals who have left reviews of “A Beautiful Mess.”

You can access the sign-up HERE!

And since we’re in such a Tragic Wreck mood, here’s a little teaser from the book…  (Unedited; subject to change…)

A Big Thank You!!!

Wow. That’s about all I can really say at this point. This birthday weekend has been absolutely amazing. It all started Thursday morning when I woke up and already nearly 5,000 people had downloaded “A Beautiful mess” for free. I couldn’t believe it. And as the day progressed, the numbers kept skyrocketing. It’s unbelievable to think that now over 15,000 people have “A Beautiful Mess” in their hands. And I’m so happy that I could give that to everyone as a little birthday gift from me to you.

In all honesty, when I sat down to write this past March, I had no intention of really ever publishing this story. And I’m still shocked that people have fallen in love with Olivia and Alexander’s story. And that’s just the beginning. So, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU! Thanks for taking the time to read my book. Thanks to everyone who joined in on all the fun this weekend for all the giveaways! That was a riot and I can’t wait to do it again! Thanks for spreading the word about my book so much so that it seems like nearly everyone has heard about this book now. I can’t tell you how many people I hear saying that they’ve heard such great things about “A Beautiful Mess.” And it’s all because of you, my fans. So thank you for taking a chance on this unknown Indie Author.

And on another note, it’s Teaser Tuesday!!!!  YEAH!!!! (18 and over only!!!)

“Hey,” Olivia said sleepily.

“Hey,” Alexander said, sitting down on the bed next to her and brushing her hair away with his hand. “I need to get to the office. Stay as long as you need to. Runner has already been out this morning. I’ll miss you, Love.” He leaned down and planted a kiss on Olivia’s mouth.

“Come to my place tonight? Stay over?” Olivia lifted her eyebrows, giving him a sweet smile.

“I have a meeting, and then I promised my brother I’d go for a drink.”

“After that?”

Alexander looked down at Olivia. “Okay. I can’t say no to you.” He kissed her one more time before he turned to leave the bedroom. When he reached the doorway, he turned back around. “Oh, and Olivia?”

She glanced up to see a devilish grin on his face.

“Don’t you dare touch yourself today. I want your orgasm and I plan on getting it later.” He spun around, leaving her completely speechless.

My Amazon Announcement

Hey all! Happy Hump Day!

So, yesterday I made a little announcement on Facebook and wanted to post it on my website as well so everyone is aware of this. Here’s the deal. I have decided to list my e-book of A Beautiful Mess exclusively with Amazon for the next 90 days. I can re-evaluate this decision at the end of 90 days regarding whether I will continue doing so. Now, this is a decision I had been struggling with ever since I published. I hated the thought of leaving anyone out of reading my books, simply because they don’t have a kindle. And honestly, I was surprised at the large percentage of my sales that come from amazon. 97% to be exact. So I made the decision to enroll my e-book of A Beautiful Mess in KDP Select. This program offers a great marketing tool for indie authors who are just starting out. It helps us get our name and our book into the hands of people who may not normally buy it. How? Well, by enrolling my book in KDP select, the book is now part of the Kindle Lender’s Library. So if you have Amazon Prime, you can now borrow my book for free. And here’s another great incentive. Every 90 days, I can offer my book for FREE on amazon for a total of 5 days. That’s right. I said FREE!!! Who doesn’t love free stuff???

Now, some of you have ePub formatted e-readers. I do not want to cut you out. So here’s what I can offer you. If you buy an e-book of my work on Amazon, all you need to do is send me a copy of the receipt and I will e-mail you a format of the book that you will be able to read on your e-reader. This doesn’t apply during the free promotional periods, unfortunately. KDP would not be happy if I did this. The free promotional tool is a way to encourage people to buy a kindle. Sorry… :-(

Now, after I made this announcement, people had questions, so hopefully the four points below clear up any concerns or questions anyone may have.

(1) MY BOOK IS AVAILABLE ON AMAZON. It is not nor will ever be taken off as 97% of my sales come from them.

(2) I have decided to list my book “A Beautiful Mess” EXCLUSIVELY with amazon so that it can be offered for free for a total of 5 days every 90 day-period. It is also now part of the Amazon Lender’s Library so if you have amazon prime, you can borrow it FOR FREE.

(3) I have made no decisions regarding whether I will do the same with “A Tragic Wreck” or “Gorgeous Chaos.” Although I do LOVE the idea of people being able to read my work for FREE. The economy sucks enough as it is.

(4) If you have a nook or kobo or any other ePub formatted e-reader, if you buy my book through amazon and send me the receipt, I will send you an ePub version of the book for you to read on your non-kindle e-reader. (This does not apply to the Free Promotional periods, unfortunately. Sorry.)

Hopefully I’ve answered everyone’s questions.

Now that’s taken care of, here’s my teaser from A Beautiful Mess that I posted yesterday!

(Contains strong language, etc. 18 and over only!)

“So, what’s with the bodyguard?” Kiera muttered under her breath.

“One word. Alexander,” Olivia said. “He can be very domineering sometimes.”

“Oh, I bet he can,” Kiera laughed. “He looks like the type that would be into tying you up and having his way with you.”

Olivia blushed. “KIERA!” she exclaimed, slapping her friend.

Kiera looked at Olivia, her face bright red.

“Oh my God. I knew it! He’s into that shit, isn’t he?” The two girls stopped walking. “I mean, he’s not fucked up and into beating you is he? Because that shit is so not cool. But hell, I’d go for being tied up and blindfolded.”

“I am not having this conversation with you on the street.” Olivia continued walking, a grin on her face, thinking about the previous morning.

“Dude. That is so fucking hot,” Kiera laughed as she ran to catch up with her friend.

“Okay, you’re right. It is so fucking hot.” Olivia’s face was flushed from the memories of Alexander restraining her.

“I bet it is.”

“And he gets turned on when I call him Mr. Burnham,” Olivia said, smiling.

“That’s sexy. I’d call him Mr. Burnham. Yes, Mr. Burnham. Whatever you want Mr. Burnham,” Kiera said breathlessly, giggling. “I so need to find a man like that. I want to be dominated.”

“It’s not like that. It’s almost as if he knows that I need that sometimes. And other times, he’s so sweet and gentle.”

“So sometimes you fuck and sometimes you make love.”

Olivia froze in her place. “No, Kiera. We don’t make love. That would entail…”

“What?” Kiera asked, interrupting Olivia. “That would mean you love him. And he loves you. And it’s true. So the sooner you admit that to yourself, the sooner you can move past it. Stop freaking out. I see the way he is with you. Why do you think he feels the need to protect you? Because you’re some girl he’s banging? Hell no. Because he loves you.”

“I don’t think so.”

“Fine, whatever. Keep denying it. You love him. Deep down. You may not realize it just yet, but you will. You’re in deep already, girly, though I know you’re scared to death to admit it. But you need to realize that your fear of getting close to people is not real. It’s merely a product of choice, of thoughts that your mind has created. So get the fuck over yourself, Olivia, and let yourself be happy for once. Because no matter what happens, you are going to get hurt in life. But it’s so much better to have jumped into the ocean and get stung by a jellyfish than to never have felt the salt water between your toes at all.” Kiera turned and walked away, leaving Olivia speechless.

Olivia walked through the front doors of her building and hurried to the elevator, wanting to get back to her office and some sense of normalcy, even though nothing had been normal about her life since she met Alexander Burnham. He entered her life in a whirlwind and had quickly implanted himself in nearly every facet of Olivia’s existence. She thought about him every second of every day. And Olivia didn’t know how she felt about that.

An Indie Author’s Plea

Okay. So yesterday shit hit the proverbial fan. What started as one story, morphed into this widespread panic that all indie authors would no longer be able to publish with any online e-book retailer. People were turning their wi-fi off on their reading devices, scared that their beloved books would be taken from them by amazon or barnes and noble. (Funny note… This is exactly why hearsay is inadmissible in a courtroom. I remember my first day of evidence class during my 1L year at law school, we played the telephone game to demonstrate this. And here’s a prime example of one statement being morphed into a statement inciting mass hysteria.)

It’s frustrating, knowing that certain e-book retailers are pulling books. But the books these retailers have pulled are disgusting. They are not simple erotica (although certain mild-erotica books have been pulled temporarily in the cross-hairs). These books were self-published depictions of criminal sexual acts and have no place in the book market. It’s books like these that give self-published authors a bad name.

Now Kobo did mention that it was pulling all self-published books temporarily until it could resolve everything. I can’t be certain that was true or not. My book was still on Kobo (until I decided yesterday to pull my books from all retailers except for amazon so I could enroll it in KDP select! YAY for Free books!!!)

So this morning, I woke up and was astounded to hear about a movement afoot trying to support Indie Authors. The thought is “Boycott 1-click on 10/26 to show support for indie authors after the censorship they endured yesterday.”

You want to show support for us, so you want to boycott our one stream of income? That’s not showing these e-book retailers anything. That’s not making a stand. That’s only going to hurt us. Not help us or show your support for us.

If you want to show your support for us, 1-click like mad! Buy that book you were on the edge of buying. If you have a favorite author, gift that book to your friends. If the book is as good as you think it is, I’m sure they’ll love you for it. If you have a friend who’s lost their job, gift them the gift of an escape from the harsh realities of the real world. Do not, I beg you, DO NOT boycott 1-clicking. It will only hurt us indie authors and the last thing we need right now is for our numbers to decrease because you think by doing so you’re “sticking it to the man.”

I love you all for your concern about my book yesterday. “A Beautiful Mess” was never taken down or marked for removal. It is not erotica. It is a romantic suspense novel with a few schmexy scenes in it. But the story line is not sex. And any sex scenes are between two consenting adults. (Oh, Mr. B….) I feel for those who had New Adult books taken down. But show your support by purchasing these books. Not boycotting 1-click.

Thanks for listening!

“A Tragic Wreck” Release Date Announcement

Happy Monday everyone! I’m finally making an announcement regarding the release date for the second book in my Beautiful Mess series titled A Tragic WreckHere’s the thing. I’d LOVE LOVE LOVE to be able to publish this right now. Because I love this book that much that I hate the thought of having to wait to share it with you. But I refuse to hit publish on an inferior product. So as much as I want to give you this book right now, I can’t. It needs to be edited. And formatted. And once it is edited, I need to read through it several times to make sure it’s as close to perfect as it can be. And that all takes a lot of time.

Some of you have expressed frustration with why there’s such a long period of time between the release of “A Beautiful Mess” and now “A Tragic Wreck.” I don’t like it anymore than you do. But the thing about being an independent author is that we have to find our own editors. We can’t just give our manuscript to a contact at a publishing house and know that a team of editors will rip through it in a few short days. There are some amazing freelance editors out there who make themselves available to us Indies. And unfortunately, the good ones get booked up quickly, but I’d rather use a fantastic editor than a mediocre one who could have my work back to me like a month ago.

So, here it is. The release date of A Tragic Wreck is FEBRUARY 4, 2014. So enjoy Super Bowl Sunday. Maybe re-read A Beautiful Mess. And get that 1-click finger ready for that day! I am so excited to be able to share the continuation of Alexander and Olivia’s story. Of course, over the next several months, I will be sharing teasers from the book with you. I thank you for your support of my first book and am looking forward to being able to hit publish on A Tragic Wreck!

Oh, and keep a look out for the Cover Reveal, happening in just a little over 2 months.

T.K.’s Angels Street Team

So, now that my book has been out for a little over a month, I’ve been fielding more and more requests from fans about joining my street team. And I suck so I’ve yet to respond to any of them as I’ve tried to determine whether I wanted to add to my street team. After much debate between me, myself, and I, I’ve decided to entertain the possibility of adding a few select fans to my angels.

You may ask what would be expected of you as a member of my street team. Well, that’s fairly simple. You’re going to help promote my books! This can be done online (through Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.) and on the streets (hanging promotional items up in coffee shops, libraries, etc.)

What do you get out of it? Free stuff! Well, kind of. I’ll send you all the promotional items you want. (I’ve got these really cool bookmarks and door hangers and I’m working on more.) You get the first dibs on ARCs of my upcoming releases. You get sneak peaks into the beta versions of my manuscripts. And you get to join an amazing group of girls who love to read and share their passion for reading all over!

So if this sounds like something you’re interested in, go ahead and fill out THIS FORM!

And then maybe you’ll be an angel too!!!
