What I’m Thankful For

All November, you always see posts on Facebook of people saying what they’re thankful for each day. Call it 30 days of thanks. I never really do that. Not for any selfish reason of anything, but I’m thankful for everything I have every day, as I’m sure most people are.

This year, I feel particularly blessed. If you told me last year on Thanksgiving that by that time next year I’d have written three books, published one, and be close to publishing the second, I’d laugh in your face. If you told me that I would be an Amazon Best Seller, I’d tell you to take another hit off your joint. But here I am, close to the end of 2013 and extremely thankful for everything that has happened this year. There have been a lot of ups (YAY for people liking my writing!), a few downs (we lost the baby at our 10 week ultrasound), but through this roller coaster of life, I will always remain thankful. Thankful for my husband who supports me no matter what. Thankful for my fans who are absolutely incredible. Thankful for my parents who instilled a love of reading when I could barely walk. Thankful for my sisters who always inspired me.

So, in celebration of thanks, this weekend I’m lowering the price of “A Beautiful Mess” to just $.99. I wish you all the best and safest of Thanksgivings. And no matter what holiday you celebrate, I hope you have a wonderful holiday season and are able to spend time with your love ones.

Much Love. T.K. :-)

Sisters last Forever

So, because they’re my sisters, both of them got rough copies of my first book. My kid sister is a teacher and is off for the summer, spending some time with the most adorable niece ever! I mean, she’s so stinking cute. (Apparently, she knows where her butt is now and you ask her where her butt is, she grabs it. Can’t wait to see her in a few weeks!)

Anyway, the kid sister finished the first book, A Beautiful Mess, and texted me to request that I send on the second book, A Tragic Wreck. (Click there to add it to your Goodreads TBR list.) So I sent it to her. And here’s our amusing text conversation that followed throughout the afternoon / evening.

K.S. (Kid sister): I’m going to tell you right now, tk Leigh. If this doesn’t end how I want it to I may have to disown you. Fair warning.

T.K.: Hahaha.

K.S.: I’m serious! Alex and Olivia need to be together.

T.K.: You’ll just have to keep reading to see what happens!! :-)

K.S.: I think Melanie needs a bigger part since she is me but maybe she will star in book 2 or 3.

T.K.: She has a big part in 3. ;-)

K.S.: Good! So when these are made into movies I can star as Melanie right?

T.K.: Haha. You have that personality!!!

K.S.: Who is Alexander?

T.K.: I’m not sure yet… Alex O’Loughlin from Hawaii Five-0 would be good. And he plays an ex navy SEAL there too. :-)

K.S.: (Googles him) That would be weird because his bday is Alexander’s birthday!!!!

T.K.: Holy crap! Weird! And his name is Alex!!!! I think I need to set up Pinterest boards to cast my movie. :-)

K.S.: Yes! Put my picture for Melanie.

T.K.: Haha. Okay.

K.S.: Though in my contract I will ask for language changes as I do not like to say the f word.

T.K.: Hmmm. We’ll take that under advisement when writing the screenplay.

K.S.: Thank you. Better to do it then rather than after it is written and having to deal with my agent.

SERIOUSLY!!! You can’t make this shit up! And now you all know why my characters are great. I grew up around a bunch of crazy personalities. Melanie is based on my kid sister – bubbly personality, always a smile on her face, would bend over backwards to help you out and to hell with what she needs. And Carol is based on my older sister – always the voice of reason. And they’re the best friends a girl could ever ask for! Love you girls!

The Cat’s Out of the Bag

Happy Monday! So lots has been going on lately. And I haven’t had time to really blog that much this past week or so.

The hubs got home from the road about a week ago. He flew in on Sunday and I picked him up at LAX. Now, keep in mind, that, yes, I’ve been writing my series of books since about March on and off, mostly when he had been on the road as a way of  creative outlet for me. But I never told him I was doing it, because I didn’t know where it would go. I really was just doing it for fun at first. And it’s still fun! I needed a creative outlet. I love my job as a producer, but I deal more with the budgets and delivery timeline side of things. Yes, when the tour starts every year, I do help with overall look and what not, but he’s the creative one. So this past January, I was so sick of all the horrifically written romance novels out there that people actually paid good money for, so I decided if they could do it, so could I!

Fast forward to March. I’m home in Connecticut a few days after I ran the LA Marathon, visiting my adorable niece. And I started to write. At first, it was just a creative outlet and I never thought the story would ever see the light of day. And every time the hubs was on the road, I wrote. And wrote. And wrote. And what was once a small one book manuscript turned into a 290,000 word three part series.

Now let’s all fast forward to July. I decide to find a group of beta readers on Goodreads. Beta readers are like a test group. And I found a group of women that generally love the contemporary romance genre, and their ages are all across the board. So with shaky hands, I hit send on the e-mails, sending them the first novel in the series. And almost overnight, they all read it and loved it. I was floored. I guess at that point was when I thought about publishing. The second book was ready for beta readers and I sent that to them.

Now, let’s go to last Sunday. Stan & I are sitting at the bar of our favorite mexican restaurant here, eating some delicious guacamole when I got the first response from one of my betas about the second book. I read it while I was sitting at the bar. I turn to Stan, HUGE GRIN on my face, and say “So, I have some news.”

Thankfully, I was drinking a beer (and I think was on my third corona at that point) so he figured I wasn’t pregnant. PHEW! That would put a serious kink in my running and marathon schedule.

So I say, “i’ve written three books and the first one is publishing in October.”

His jaw hit the bar. He was shocked. And then that afternoon when we got home, I sent him the first book and he stayed up almost all night reading it. We had to head to Vegas the following day for a production seminar and he was mad that his reading was interrupted by the four hour drive. He read all three books that week, and he’s not a huge reader.

He even needed me to pass him the tissue box on more than one occasion.

So I’ve told friends and family about the book and am excited about their enthusiasm and support.

I was going to do a post about my dog, but I’ll save that for another day. Right now I’m just way too excited about finally being able to share my labor of love with everyone starting in October.

So, here’s a link to my Facebook Author page. Feel free to give it a like it you want:

Silly Hound….

Aaaahhhhh….  Friday….  Let’s all just take a minute and revel in the feeling that we only get on Fridays. Isn’t it great?

Anyway, I woke up this morning and make my coffee. Sadly, the hubs is on the road right now. They were shooting a music video yesterday in Nashville. And today they’re off to Atlantic City for a gig before he comes home Sunday. But I’m on a red eye tomorrow night back to the East Coast to visit the fam bam. So, where was I? Yes, getting my coffee. I bring it back upstairs to the bedroom and decide to drag the laptop out and do some editing on my manuscript while I enjoy my first (2) cups of coffee of the day.

And what do I notice? My dog’s but it bleeding! WTF???

Oh, this is my dog….

Image

His name is Biggie the notorious D-O-G.

And his but is bleeding….

He had an anal abscess. Fun, right?

So he is at the vet right now getting it drained. That’s exactly how I would want to spend my Friday. Wouldn’t you?

And of course after I drop him off, I came back to my house, and it was so strange walking in the front door without my hound greeting me at the door with that look in his face that said, “OH MY GOD! YOU’RE HOME! I don’t know how long you were gone for! It could have been 2 minutes or 2 years, but you’re home!!!”

Don’ you just love dogs?

Here’s hoping that everything is okay with my pooch…..  Now, back to editing! (I should totally be cutting some video right now, but I don’t feel like it. Maybe later….)

Hope y’all have a happy Friday!

And maybe next week I’ll post a teaser from my book!  EEK!!!!

Testing!

My first blog post!  Welcome to the twenty first century!  How freakin’ exciting!

Anywho, I’m getting ready to do a lot of blogging, hopefully in anticipation of releasing my VERY FIRST BOOK!  It’s tentatively called “A Beautiful Mess” and I’m still in the very very initial writing stages.  I pretty much have the entire story down, but now comes the fun part of going back and reading it over and over again to make sure it’s good enough to give to some Beta readers.  A little ambitious, but I’m hoping for a fall release of the first installment of the two part series.  It’s New Adult with a bit of suspense.  Anyway, that’s all for my first blog post.  I’m hoping to have some teasers for the book soon!

Thanks y’all!

TK
